Apple Music Is the ‘PC’ of the Music Streaming World
According a new report from Jackdaw Research (pdf) that surveyed 500 people, 62% of users under 35 who started the three-month Apple Music trial cancelled the service, while 67% of those over 35 began to pay for it after the trial was over.
“Personally, i’m discovering a whole lot more music than I was before”. “I think it’s fabulous, and to have over 15 million on there, and 6.5 million in the paid category, I’m really happy about it. And I think the runway here is really good”. At this point, the only way for Apple Music to steal users may be lowering the price of the service below $9.99 per month. It is also an increase from the 11 million trial subscribers that Apple announced in early August. “It brings the art back in music”.
Apple in September introduced its latest iPhones, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. While sales show no signs of slowing down, it’s vital for the company to expand into new markets.
It’s been a rather busy week for Apple. The new Apple TV didn’t just receive a long overdue hardware upgrade, it also found a new objective, with gaming pushed to the forefront and Siri taking a central spot on the new, touch-enabled remote.
Cook once again stressed human curation as the key differentiator between Apple Music and competitors like Spotify, despite the fact that all major music services use human curation in a few form or shape.
Apple Music has an advantage over competing services there because it’s pre-installed on iOS devices and mixes owned tracks with streamed music.
