Apple Music users on Android can now save tracks to microSD cards
In addition to possibly extending more Apple services to Android users, other subjects addressed during the Town Hall included plans for reviving declining iPad sales, bringing a streaming program service to Apple TV and appealing to a global market of potential iPhone buyers. The biggest part of the new version is the ability to download music to an SD card on compatible smartphones.
“We wanted customers on Android to naturally be able to use it – what they’ve learned and how they interact is common”, Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, said in an interview following Apple Music’s launch on Android in November.
This update adds downloading songs to an SD card, so you can now keep more music offline.
The new features should help to make the app more appealing to Android users, but it will likely need all the help it can get.
That said, these days not all Android devices have microSD card slots anymore.
In the course of the discussion, Cook revealed that in the coming days, Apple may consider porting more services like iCloud and Apple Pay to Android. Samsung’s flagships, for example, no longer have one and Google’s Nexus devices never had any to begin with.
The recent updates also allows you to browse the My Music section by composers and compilations, which will come in handy in helping you find your music, classical albums or movie soundtracks, if you’re particularly into those two genres. But perhaps that’s fair, since there are still some crucial things missing like, as a commenter noted below, Chromecast support.
