Apple Music wins exclusive video deal with Taylor Swift
A day after Swift celebrated her 26th birthday, the artist has announced that she’s turning her world tour into a movie, one that will be available on Apple Music.
The deal with Apple is a latest twist in a cold-then-hot love affair between the gadget giant and Swift.
“The most challenging part of the year was being on-point for every show of a huge stadium tour”. Fans can also look forward to several behind-the-scenes footage, rehearsal videos and shots of some of the special stars that Swift has invited on stage during her concerts. The film will debut on Apple Music on December 20, where it will be accessible to the service’s 6.5 million and counting subscribers, as well as anyone taking advantage of that free, three-month trial. Fans can listen to it on Apple’s radio station, Beats 1.
Other musicians who popped up on Swifts top-grossing tour include Lorde, the Weeknd, Fetty Wap and Steven Tyler.
Swift criticised Apple Music in June for not paying artists during its free, three-month trial launch. Swift said “I think that is probably the starting point because I didn’t have a personal relationship with Apple until that point”, referring to the blog post that convinced Apple to pay artists. Swift told Lowe during the interview. “Am I going to wake up tomorrow and all of my music will be off of iTunes?” she added.
In case you missed it in the Instagram photo, Swift is seen sporting the iconic photo of Disney’s The Little Mermaid on her sweater, which was first released in 1989, the same she was born.
She wrote, “Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes”. The trailer discription noted Jonas Akerlund as the director of the video. And just like that, the singer was back on Apple Music.
Swift’s decision came after she pulled her entire catalog of music from Spotify in November 2014 and refused to offer “1989” on streaming services, saying the business had shrunk the numbers of paid album sales drastically.
