Apple Pay is coming to Starbucks next year
It’s worth noting, however, that while you’ll be able to use Apple Pay to buy something in Starbucks, you won’t get any loyalty rewards for doing so.
In addition to Starbucks, Apple Pay will also be available in KFC fast food locations and Chili’s sit-down restaurants starting next year.
KFC is now planning to roll Apple Pay out in the U.S. sometime next spring. A few locations will be testing the technology this year in a pilot program.
“Apple Pay head Jennifer Bailey broke the news Thursday onstage at the Code/Mobile conference at The Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, Calif. “[KFC] has a special place in my heart – it was my first job ever”, Bailey said.
Apple Inc.’s fledgling mobile-payment service is getting a boost from Starbucks Corp.
Chile’s will be on the menu for Apple Pay next year as well, according to Bailey, “allowing people to pay at their tables”. In-flight mobile payment could be a growth area in the future, as she mentions that you can already use Apple Pay in JetBlue flights and Delta has just incorporated Apple Pay in its app today.
At the current time, Starbucks uses its own barcode-based in-app mobile payments system for coffee and snack purchases made within its retail stores.
Regarding the possibility of expanding Apple Pay to additional countries, Bailey said that Apple is working to bring the service to as many countries as possible.
