Apple plans record initial production of new iPhones: WSJ
According to media reports Wednesday, the California-based company has asked suppliers to initially manufacture up to 90 million units of two new iPhone models by December 31. “By comparison, Apple past year ordered a then-record initial production run of 70 million to 80 million for its first larger-screen iPhones”. Some analysts, such as Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster, believe Apple could hit a slowdown in the near future.
And, it sounds like the iPhone 6S will be an incremental update to the iPhone line.
The Journal is also re-iterating some other rumours we’ve heard about Apple’s next iPhone, which people are expecting to be called the iPhone 6S. Apple is likewise forecast to conserve the display screen outcome, the daily paper advised.
According to a new report by the Wall Street Journal this morning, “Apple Inc.is preparing for a larger initial production run of its next iPhones, betting that even modest hardware changes will entice consumers to upgrade handsets and outstrip demand for the larger-screen phones that it released past year”. This comes after the publication reported in March that Apple was testing a pink color choice for the iPhone.
Mass production is expected to begin next month, with the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus widely expected to be announced in September.
That’s up considerably from last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus production figures, which was already a record number.
