Apple Rumored to Be Creating a Video-Sharing App
Apple is working on a new video sharing app that let users record, apply drawings and filter to media – similar to Snapchat.
Apple is now busy developing the app’s software, which has been designed specifically to be used with one hand.
Apple has been working on a new video sharing and editing application with a focus on social networking, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Even their iCloud app which is supposed to be connected to social media through photos and videos did not really take off much except for the fact that it became mostly a backup tool rather than a way to share posts.
Although the rumored app is being compared to Snapchat, there’s no word yet on if it will have the company’s famous disappearing feature. It looks set to build on Apple’s June announcement that iMessage on iOS10 will feature animations, photo filters and the like – essentially to make the service more fun.
There is no proof of concepts yet for the Snapchat-like social media app from Apple. According to one of the sources, Apple wants to make connections to contacts stronger.
But Apple has failed to successfully launch social-media apps in the past.
Though Apple is aiming for a 2017 release for the app, it could kill the project at any point. Snapchat now has 150 million daily users, according to Bloomberg, making it more popular than Twitter. Moreover, Apple has also hired the former president of a video production company who will lead the project with his expertise in the field.
However, the app has yet to be put through Apple’s upper-management stress test and could ultimately be discontinued if it doesn’t meet the company’s standards. One proposed update includes consolidating every communication between a user and a specific contact on one screen, so “two friends could be able to see all text messages, e-mails, and social network interactions between each other in a single window”. Regardless, the development work suggests the growing importance of social networking to the company.
Now, Apple is trying again with Apple Music Connect, which tries to connect both users and artists.
