Apple’s new iPhone software will automatically show you where you parked
Given that iOS 10 is still in the early beta stages, note that all of this is subject to change upon its release this fall.
Within iOS 10 the new version of Apple Maps will have a feature that will log where you parked the auto.
The Apple Maps parking reminder will be treading on the territory of the myriad existing parking reminder/car locator apps already in the App Store, as is often the case with new Apple features.
Running iOS 10 beta 1 on my iPhone SE, the lock screen alert above appeared automatically shortly after disconnecting from CarPlay. iOS can also detect entering and exiting your vehicle based on auto Bluetooth systems as seen in Reminders in iOS 9. If the iPhone is based on the auto Bluetooth system, the iOS will self-detect while entering and exiting the vehicle. It also works with Apple’s CarPlay system, noticing when you disconnect with that.
A parked vehicle icon will apparently also show in Apple Maps, including with an option to get directions to the auto and an estimated time to get there. If all the location is inaccurate, you can even edit it or add context to the location which is saved.
Users can also update the car’s location to Maps by simply taking a picture.
iOS 10’s Parked Car feature isn’t super useful at home, but it could definitely come in handy out in the wild. If the user has enabled the new widget feature on the lock screen, the “Parked car” option will be present there so that you can get directions to your vehicle with just a few taps.
The Parked Car feature of iOS 10 is consistent and reliable and with this feature you can forget about the trouble of losing the location of your car every time you park it.
