Apple Selects Best Apps, Games of 2015

Games and Entertainment apps attract the most developers, while the latter category attracts the most users.
There are over 20 main categories for developers to publish their apps on Apple TV App Store.
Games may contribute as the biggest percentage when it comes to the apps available on Apple TV, but when it comes to what users are actually downloading it is entertainment apps that come out tops.
For the first time ever, Apple is using pop-up ads in its own App Store to encourage users with older iPhone models to upgrade.
According to the report from AppFigures, 39 percent of apps come at a cost. In comparison, Apple TV rival Roku has 2,500 apps (it calls them channels) in its catalog after several years. Cue confirmed the Apple TV has “over 2,000 apps” available in the App Store. Shortly after introduction, Apple added Top Charts and a number of other app categories.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Apple senior vice president of Internet software and services Eddy Cue said that the store was receiving significant app developer interest, with games being “pretty hot”. Cue went on to draw parallels between gaming on iOS devices and what the company is learning about gaming on the Apple TV, aligning Apple’s product offerings with casual gamers. “We expanded the market”.
