“The price difference between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s was a lot, so many customers are not willing to upgrade to the new model”, said a senior executive of another national retailer.
The price of the iPhone 6s 16 GB model, which was introduced at Rs 62,000 on October 16, has fallen by 11-16 per cent and now ranges between Rs 52,000 and Rs 55,000, according to four large retailers who spoke to ET on condition of anonymity.
Along with this price slash when New Year is all heading towards, many online retailers have offered special offers to attain more customers.
Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Prices Slashed: Barely two months after the launch of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple Inc, the maker of iPhone devices has reduced prices of both the 6s models by up to 16 percent in India. Another report points out that Apple had initially imported 320,000 units of the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus but the deficient demand seems to have hit the same and now the imports have slung to a lower 120,000 in November. For the 128GB model of the handset, the prices are higher up to Rs. 80,000 rupees for a single mobile handset. The latest bout of price cut literally brings the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus prices down by 16%.
Apple has slashed the price of its bestselling iPhone 5s for the third time in a span of just three months – to counter the decline in the demand for iPhone 6s and 6s Plus after Diwali. Since the newly launched Apple smartphones were costlier than those available in the US, Middle East and Hong Kong, it raised concern that Apple’s market would be hurt in India, the world’s fastest-growing smartphone market.
Flipkart, the market leader in India, is however, offering the iPhone 6s at a starting price of Rs 48,499 for the 16GB version, while the 64GB iPhone 6s is available on Flipkart at Rs 61,999. The iPhone 6s Plus with 128GB is still hovering around Rs 84,924 compared to the launch price of Rs 92,000.
