Apple to launch new broken iPhone upgrade program
A while back, Apple introduced a trade-in program where you could bring in an old iPhone and trade it in for a new one.
However, all that is about to change, according to a report from 9to5Mac, as sources say Apple will this week begin accepting iPhones for trade-in that have damages to the screen, buttons and camera, or at least damages “within reason”.
The Apple Reuse and Recycle Program for iPhones is expanding.
However, it may be enough to convince existing customers to upgrade rather than pay for a fix. Though the current trade-in values are reportedly $50 for an iPhone 5s, $200 for an iPhone 6 and $250 for an iPhone 6 Plus, it’s possible Apple will drop the value based on the significance of damage. Another new thing that Apple started doing is to offer plastic screen protector installations in its official stores (not for free, of course).
One of the most finicky tasks the modern tech user has to encounter, this service is sure to be greeted enthusiastically by iPhone owners with two left thumbs. 9to5Mac reports that this is already available in select Apple Store locations, and the process is similar to what you’re seeing in the video below (it’s in Dutch, but you’ll get the point).
Let the experts deal with screen protector bubbles. Previously, Apple Store employees weren’t allowed to install any screen protectors.
