Apple Unveils New Beats Pill+ Speaker
Beats, which was acquired by Apple in July 2014, says it has shipped more than one million Beats Pills worldwide since the product launched in 2012.
The Beats Pill+ will start out at a suggested price of $230 and can be found at Apple.com and authorized Beats retailers sometime “next month”.
You can use the Beats Pill+ speaker’s USB port as an external battery in a pinch too, which is nice if you’re on the go and need a quick way to charge up your phone. The new Pill+ can connect to a companion app for both Android and iOS, and is available in both black and white colorways.
Apple has unveiled a new Beats Pill+ speaker which features bigger and fuller sound, clean and sophisticated design, and a 12-hour battery.
The Pill+ features a “stereo active 2-way crossover system”, which “creates an optimized sound field for dynamic range and clarity across all genres of music”, Beats said. In addition to its reworked size, the new Bluetooth speaker takes on a new shape, with a slightly flatter bottom and top for increased stability. The device has two woofers, so you can expect excellent audio output from these speakers.
Wood continues: “We spent countless days, weeks, months testing for that flawless combination of form and function – small enough to travel but still big enough to feel the emotion of the music”. We haven’t had a chance to get our hands on the speaker ourselves, but here are a few thoughts on Pill+ from a couple publications from around the Web. The button controls have also moved to the top of the speaker. There’s also a “fuel gauge” to let you know how much battery is left. There is also a line in audio port. On the other note, against the product recall in June customers can return Beats Pill XL bought since January 2014 for $325 or use similar amount on Apple Store credit. More important than the look and build is the sound, and judging from my brief demo the Pill+ is likely the best-sounding Pill ever.
