Apple Watch 2 Release is What Apple Needs to Save Declining Sales
Adding a cellular chip to the Apple Watch would make it independent from the iPhone. Expectations have been pretty reasonable: we tend to expect the usual thinner but better battery life push that Apple always wants, plus a bit of a speed boost. Samsung already offers select smartwatches with built-in cellular connectivity, so here’s to hoping that Apple can get an acceptable solution for the Apple Watch soon, too.
Apple Inc. has hit roadblocks in making major changes that would connect its Watch to cellular networks and make it less dependent on the iPhone, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Although, the other reported additional specs of the new smartwatch might balance things out and reduce the device to something that the user will have to charge every other time. Apple has been looking into lower-powered radios, but those weren’t ready. Will this be the same case for the Apple Watch 2? These expected models include the existing ranges like the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Edition and Apple Watch Sport.
Reports also indicate that Apple is expected to release up to five models for the Apple Watch 2.
The new version will feature a Global Positioning System chip that will enable more accurate tracking of travel distances, Bloomberg reported today, citing anonymous sources.
Apple shipped its first watch in April 2015, hoping for a new blockbuster product amid slowing iPhone sales, which contribute nearly 60 percent of revenue. This will be of particular interest to people who use the watch for outdoor exercise like running and biking.
