Applications for unemployment aid fall to 43-year low

Employment was up by 12,931, and the number of unemployed increased by 2,066. Year over year, it has seen an increase of 97,100 positions. Clearwater, Shoshone, Benewah, Adams and Lemhi counties all have unemployment rates higher than 6 percent.

Omaha’s preliminary jobless rate was 3.2 percent in October, compared with September’s revised 3.3 percent.

Local unemployment rates for October will be released on Tuesday.

The Connecticut Business & Industry Association said the fourth consecutive month of job losses reinforces the need for newly elected lawmakers to work together and turn Connecticut’s economy around.

Springfield’s unemployment rate was last this low in December of 2007, almost nine years ago and prior to the Great Recession. Manufacturing posted the largest decrease over the month, down by 3,500 jobs. This is the largest sector in Kentucky with almost 400,000 jobs accounting for one-fifth of all nonfarm employment. Construction jobs are up 7 percent from 36,900 in October 2015. The state added more jobs 2,200 than previously reported last month, bringing the monthly public- and private-sector job gains to 4,900. Almost 3,000 jobs were pared from state and local governments and 2,200 construction jobs were cut in October.

In Savannah over the past year, job growth is at 2.6 percent or 4,600 jobs for a total of 179,000.

Employment in the information sector increased by 200 in October 2016.

“Private-sector payroll employment has fully recovered from the last recession, with 28,100 more people employed than during the pre-recession peak”. Employers in Maryland have added 66,600 jobs since January 2015.

Other Services added 1,400 (+1.0%) jobs over the month.

“We’re still facing a 2016 where job growth is more subdued than in 2015 mostly because we had a slowdown in the second quarter of this year”, Waddell said. In addition, construction added 1,900 jobs, professional and business services was up 1,600 and retail trade added 1,500. However, the current estimate is still 10,100 higher than it was a year ago, when 60,200 people were listed as unemployed. Compared to previous year, nearly 40,000 more people are in the work force and almost 50,000 more people are working. They’ve returned to look for work at home.
