Are you excited for WWDC?
The biggest expectation for the conference lies within Universal Apps, an update to MacOS that will hopefully provide support for syncing between apps on two operating systems. “We need to get finer-grain language and start to understand that an iPhone is just a refrigerator, it’s not the addiction”. For those don’t own any Apple devices, there’s still an option available for you. Several reports have surfaced that Apple will add something called Digital Health to the iOS 12.
These may not be that spectacular this time around though, as an Axios article indicates that Apple is aiming for stability over new features for these versions, after troubles with software bugs with iOS 11. This means, the Cupertino-giant will deliver its keynote speech on June 4 this year, where it will reveal all the details about its four new major software platforms.
The focus this year will be on integrating more deeply with iOS. Unlike a year ago, there will be no announcements pertaining to the company’s Mac lineup.
Mac hardware upgrades have been a key talking point at past WWDCs. Usually, Apple announces software updates at WWDC and sometimes also updates or launches new hardware – as long as that hardware isn’t an iPhone, which the company usually launches in September. Although it’s interesting news, let’s hope for a couple of demonstrations that will better help us understand the full scope of this new feature.
Additionally, a Digi times report claims that Apple has a new entry 13-inch MacBook model planned with the same Retina display as the existing 13.3-inch MacBook Pro. However, these won’t be ready until later this year.
IOS 12 will finally allow iPhones and Apple Watches to work with NFC-enabled transit systems, ID systems, auto doors, and more. Google has tacitly acknowledge as much with a new usage Dashboard feature on its upcoming Android P release.
Of course, Apple has kept its software plans silent. The latter is becoming especially important as Apple leans more heavily on services – which require more ongoing collaboration than a gadget does – to make its money. But the big news with the macOS is likely be several new tools that may help developers write applications that will work seamlessly across the iPhone as well as a full computer like the MacBook Air. The conference offers insight into how the company’s thinking about its future, where its priorities lie, and how it wants to partner with developers to accomplish those goals. The OS is likely to get a new dark theme and a dedicated Apple New app.
