Are you pleased with the New Hampshire primary results?
SC holds its Republican primary on February 20. A strong debate performance could be crucial as the candidates try to reach the voters who are next in line to cast their ballots – in SC and Nevada.
Off the heels of the New Hampshire primary, Republican presidential candidates are set to assemble once again Saturday to spar at the GOP presidential debate at the Peace Center in Greenville, South Carolina.
Mike Murphy, the GOP consultant who runs the pro-Bush super PAC, wrote on Twitter that the ad would start running nationally Friday on Fox News. It remains to be seen whether their nasty and personal attacks will reappear on the debate stage.
With Trump proving in New Hampshire that he can win over a broad coalition of Republicans and independent voters, and Cruz riding high among evangelicals and other social conservatives, the Trump-Cruz battle will be paramount, with mainstream candidates likely scrapping for bronze in SC.
Republican presidential candidate Sen. Sanders could have won New Hampshire even if Clinton had beaten him soundly in Iowa, but the Granite State race would have been much closer.
Will Bush continue his pattern of taking on Trump on the debate stage? But for that to happen, two of these three “establishment” candidates will have to drop out.
Can Rubio rehabilitate his image? He’s an old, steady Washington hand who could anchor the passionate young conservative Rubio, who also benefits with many voters because of his Hispanic heritage.
Rubio, who hoped to match or better his third-place Iowa finish, stumbled to fifth after he took a drubbing in the last debate before the vote, where he robotically repeated his talking points. But the messages implied by the outcomes in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary are in sync with what the rest of the country is feeling.
Bush gets thirteen percent, followed by Rubio (12.5 percent), OH governor John Kasich (8.5 percent) and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson (5 percent).
How far right does Kasich move? The state has been good to his family and his brother, President George W. Bush, in 2000 went on to win the nomination after losing to John McCain in New Hampshire as the victory allowed him to recapture momentum. “That is big here in South Carolina”, Stewart suggested.
The Ohio governor – and former congressman – on Wednesday defended his foreign policy experience at an appearance in SC, citing his long tenure on the House Armed Services Committee.
Nor did Trump miss an opportunity to tout his controversial proposal for a wall along the southern border, pushing back on former Mexican President Calderone, who said Mexico would not be paying for his vaunted wall.
