Area churches open their doors for community meal service
The Church of the Epiphany’s Thanksgiving Day dinner has delivered over 1,200 meals to homes in Ocean and Monmouth counties over the years, church leaders estimate.
When Bush died, donations were made to the church in lieu of flowers.
“The Buffalo Bills are proud to partner with the Food Bank of WNY, especially for the annual Thanksgiving Blitz which is very special to both organizations”, said Gretchen Geitter, Buffalo Bills Vice President of Community Relations. Angie Fletcher, who along with Ami Williams is heading the dinner, said that the money was used to purchase more than 90 pounds of turkey.
It is the 13th year the church has hosted the event, and it plans to serve turkey, ham, dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry, rolls and assorted desserts, church officials said.
Festivities for the day include entertainment and a traditional Turkey Dinner. Church members will be serving the dinner. Meals can be delivered as well by calling the aforementioned phone numbers. Rides and deliveries are also available.
Sponsors are needed to underwrite the cost of 65 turkeys and a few general supplies (plates, utensils, etc.).
“I’ve got plenty of kitchen help”, she said. Our church really believes in giving to our community. She passed away the next spring, and the dinner wasn’t continued.
The Thanksgiving Day meals of today may be different, but the sentiment is the same – they bring family and friends to the table to celebrate the season with a thankful heart. 100, and let them know how many would attending for the sit-dinner or how many to-go meals they would like to pick up.
Lieving said a dinner is conducted the second Sunday of each month in the fellowship hall behind the church and is open to the public.
