Argentinian film ‘El Clan’ will close 46th IFFI
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the government of Goa along with Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) and Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) revealed the news in a press statement. Information and broadcasting Secretary Sunil Arora, expressed confidence that the students would do nothing to dampen the event.
Argentina’s Oscar entry “The Clan” will bring the curtains down on the global Film Festival of India (IFFI) while Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne-starrer “Danish Girl” is another major title to be screened at the 10-day movie gala in Goa.
However, when asked about media reports that the FTII students were planning a protest at the venue against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) chairman, Arora said that he was not anxious about being embarrassed by any protest. Spain is the country of focus.
The Indian Panorama, on the other hand, would be opened with a Sanskrit film “Prayamanasam”, a third feature film ever made in Sanskrit in India. The festival’s opening film is “The Man Who Knew Infinity”, directed by Mathew Brown. Film Bazaar, organized alongside Iffi each year, will be conducted from November 20-24. More than 150 films in various stages will be presented at film labs, co-production markets, viewing rooms and industry screenings, with the aim of facilitating sales of world cinema in South Asia and the promotion of Indian cinema in the worldwide domain.
Chief secretary R K Srivastava said the state government machinery is fully geared to organize a successful festival, which would be a memorable experience for almost 7000 delegates who would be taking part in the festival.
