Arizona 10 ASU 31 Halftime
For decades, students at Arizona State and Arizona have tried to prank each other in the days leading up to their annual football game.
Brandon Dawkins, battling an illness, has been a spark for a UA attack that couldn’t move the ball for the first quarter and a half. On Arizona’s second possession, Christian Sam stripped Arizona quarterback Jerrard Randall and the fumble was recovered by Laiu Moeakiola, setting up ASU at the Arizona 49-yard line.
But the Wildcats struck back on a Bercovici interception that was returned for a touchdown by sophomore cornerback Cam Denson.
However, the momentum was short lasted as ASU responded with a 10 play, 78-yard touchdown drive.
Griffey’s 95-yard catch-and-run and Skowron’s ensuing PAT has cut the Devils’ lead to 31-23 heading to the fourth quarter at Sun Devil Stadium.
The students of Arizona fell for it hard, including members of the school’s faculty that signed the petition. ASU extended their lead to 14-0 on just six plays, with each scoring drive taking less than two minutes. The Sun Devils gained 400 yards of total offense, including 169 on the ground in the half. Bercovici threw for 231 yards and two scores and running back Kalen Ballage rushed for 98 yards in the first half. He is not expected to return in the second half.
