But those numbers don’t tell the whole story. It is a forgone conclusion that Watson will miss the season, considering Achilles’ injuries usually take an entire year to rehab from. The speedy Brown, who owns a sub-4.4 40-yard dash time, ended last season with 48 receptions for 696 yards and five touchdowns. Palmer was also intercepted twice.

More than the touchdown, Arians liked the teancity of his third string QB. He was laying face first on the training table on the sideline for a few minutes with his left shoe off. Andre Ellington and rookie David Johnson will be competing for carries, so it should be interesting to see how they perform on Sunday night.

The game resulted in Oakland’s second straight preseason loss and in one swoop featured a highly encouraging defensive performance and a troubling offensive outing.

But the real glue here is head coach Bruce Arians. How much credit does Arians deserve?

He was off-balance, confused, and it wasn’t even a good pass had there been a receiver there to catch it. In the NFL you never toss a ball to the flat in such a lackadaisical fashion, and as if to illustrate why you don’t do that it was returned for a game changing touchdown.
