Arizona GOP lawmaker to announce if she’ll take on McCain
“Arizonans know that John McCain will never stop fighting for Arizona and America, as he has his entire adult life, both in uniform and in Congress. Senator McCain looks forward to this campaign, and to discussing his strong record of protecting America’s national security, standing up for veterans, and growing Arizona’s economy.”
The Today’s News-Herald newspaper (http://goo.gl/5WvAS3 ) in Lake Havasu City reports that Ward said she planned to be in the Legislature when the 2016 regular session begins in January but that she added that she’ll see “what happens in the meantime”.
State Sen. Kelli Ward announced in April she was considering taking on the five-term incumbent in next year’s Republican primary.
“I fear this agreement could undermine the very goals we have maintained for 35 years – weakening the Islamic Republic, constraining its threatening influence, strengthening Israel and our Arab partners, lessening regional tensions, and preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability”, he said. She has championed efforts to push back against the federal government and is a vocal opponent of Common Core school standards and the Affordable Care Act.
“Weak-kneed establishment Republicans have gone along with the Obama agenda, and the conservatives in Congress have begged us to send them reinforcements”, according to Ward. “And it is part of the reason Hillary Clinton says John McCain is her favorite Republican”. In 2013, the Arizona Republican Party voted to censure him as too liberal and insufficiently conservative. Arizona U.S. Representative Matt Salmon is mentioned by conservatives as a possible candidate.
“Oddball bills. Fringe issues”.
Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick has announced she’ll seek the Democratic nomination for Senate next year.
