Arkansas 31, No. 9 LSU 14
Alex Collins kept the resurgent Arkansas Razorbacks rolling at the expense of an LSU squad that has fallen hard and fast.
Alexander did not play well as he was partly responsible for multiple sacks and was guilty of a crucial, 15-yard facemask penalty that ruined an LSU drive that had reached the Arkansas 20 in the second quarter when the Tigers trailed 14-0. The No. 17 Bulldogs (7-3, 3-3) are well known for beating who they are supposed to beat and losing to who they are supposed to lose to.
Everyone wanted to talk about Tiger running back Leonard Fournette but it was Alex Collins who stole the show in the first half. Cornelius screened off a possible tackler on Reed’s 52-yard touchdown.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) – Arkansas’ Brandon Allen has overcome a flurry of criticism in his home state over the last few years to become one of the top quarterbacks in the Southeastern Conference.
LSU Tigers running back Jeremy Hill (33) celebrates with offensive tackle Vadal Alexander (78) after a touchdown against the Auburn Tigers in the first quarter at Tiger Stadium. A win would have kept the Tigers alive for an American Athletic Conference title and a New Year’s Six bowl bid.
Syracuse (3-7, 1-5 ACC) put up a good fight for embattled coach Scott Shafer, but lost for the seventh time in a row. During the BCS period the BIG 10, BIG EAST and PAC 10 each had 3 teams participate and the ACC four. Johnson was 14-of-22 for 61 yards with an interception. Greg Huegel had three field goals for the Tigers.
LSU owns 10 wins in its last 13 rivalry meetings with Ole Miss, and two wins in three tries with the current head coaches.
LSU has some good wins on its resume, but the Florida win came right after Gators QB Will Grier was suspended for a year, beating Auburn is nothing to brag about this year and the two-point win at Mississippi State doesn’t look as great when Alabama just beat the Bulldogs by 25 on the road. The Tide shook off a slow start thanks to three long touchdowns in the second quarter, starting with a 69-yard punt return by Cyrus Jones. He also had a pass intercepted in the fourth quarter by D.J. Dean and lost a first-half fumble that set up an Arkansas touchdown. Still, it would have been reasonable to attribute the Tigers’ offensive woes, at least in part, to a dominant Alabama front that turned in yet another strong effort at Mississippi State on Saturday. Quarterback Dak Prescott could barge into the Heisman Trophy picture if the Bulldogs win out.
Alabama’s nine sacks were the most for the program since 1998 against Vanderbilt. Houston scored seven snaps later – consuming a precious 2:19 – when Javin Webb pushed in from one yard out. Ole Miss has only recently fallen from the polls. Harris completed 7 of 9 passes in the two minute offense on the drive that covered 92 yards and did not include one run. College fans now know that those early rankings were bogus and simply based on someone’s opinion that the SEC “is just better than everyone else”. “Way better. I’m just saying we ran into a spot where protection was awful, Ok, and we have to be better”.
Adams started and ran for 141 yards with Notre Dame’s leading rusher C.J. Henry had two of those with runs of 65 and 74 yards and racked up a 9.3 yards per carry average – his second best of the season.
