Arkansas’ Bielema fires back following criticism from Texas Tech’s Kingsbury
The Razorbacks beat Texas Tech 49-28 last season before Bielema spoke at a Texas high school football conference in July and made comments that irked Kingsbury.
“I’m happy he got to vent and feels a lot better”, Bielema said. “People were literally coming out of the woodworks looking for me to get them tickets”.
Kingsbury and Bielema are 1-1 against each other all-time as head coaches, but don’t expect the two to exchange any phone calls soon regarding re-scheduling. As Kingsbury said, Bielema “speaks his mind”. “I’ve never really had that before”. I wasn’t defending anything.
Walden has since said that Bielema has since made amends with him, but Walden still notes the irony of Bielema’s comments today. The fan base is frustrated, the team injury list is continually growing with significant losses, and the coaching staff is looking befuddled. “Asked what was said between the coaches, he said: “(It was a) normal postgame handshake”.
Bielema said he was “shocked” to hear Kingsbury’s comments because “in this profession you handle things in a certain way”.
The Razorbacks are led by quarterback Brandon Allen, the SEC’s leading passer with 916 yards through three games.
“I thought our offense and our kicking game did a great job, good enough to win that football game”, defensive coordinator Robb Smith said. “Just to watch the way he operated Saturday night was awesome “. “You know, as a coach who’s been in it for 10 years, I know better than to worry about somebody that’s been (around) for a couple that are.500”.
Smith was pleased with freshman Dre Greenlaw’s first start at weakside linebacker (nine tackles) enabling junior and fellow Fayetteville High grad Brooks Ellis (12 tackles) to move back to middle linebacker which he played the last two years.
The Red Raiders will face the No. 4 ranked TCU Horned Frogs at home in the conference opener at Jones AT&T Stadium.
If the constant trolling and the need to reply to every shot that is fired your way continues, it will be interesting to see how long Bielema lasts at Arkansas.
Everyone and their mother was calling the Patriots quarterback looking to see if he could get them tickets to Super Bowl XXXVIII. It didn’t seem that way in Saturday’s 52-38 win over Tulsa though, as Keyarris Garrett caught a 43-yard TD pass at the first half whistle.
Kingsbury said he immediately turned his attention to game planning for TCU.
Kansas State place-kicker Jack Cantele, who hit all four of his field-goal tries, including a 44-yarder to send the Wildcats’ eventual 39-33 victory to a third OT, was selected special teams player of the week.
