Arkansas motors past Kansas State 45-23 in Liberty Bowl
Arkansas running back Alex Collins is having himself a day against the Kansas State Wildcats in the Autozone Liberty Bowl. Arkansas’s defensive backs will be going up against the unstoppable Wildcats passing game, which has averaged 204.8 yards per game over their last five, quite a bit more than their season average of 177.1.
Arkansas coach Bret Bielema was an assistant on Synder’s staff at Kansas State in 2002-03….
“It’s not my favorite thing to do – to play against or compete against coaches that have been through our program – and not for the reason that they may know something, but it’s just the human element of it, more than anything else”.
Arkansas coach Bret Bielema will be facing former mentor, Kansas State coach Bill Snyder, for the first time in his career, a situation that Snyder doesn’t enjoy. “He has a lot of talent in terms of change of direction and athletic ability”. Third was a blocked kick during the final play of the second quarter. With Kansas State struggling to put up points, we think the under is a safe bet. The Hogs Hogs marched down the field on a six-play, 72-yard drive. The Wildcats won the first three in 1910, 1911 and 1926, and the Razorbacks won the past two in 1967 and the Cotton Bowl on January 6, 2012. Wide receiver Deante Burton had five catches for 135 yards and a touchdown against the Mountaineers. Kansas State (6-7) used Lee’s interception to get off to a quick start, scoring less than 3 1/2 minutes into the game on a 10-yard run by fullback Winston Dimel.
Kansas State dropped six straight games midway through the season and seemed destined for a seventh straight defeat when it trailed Iowa State 35-14 in the third quarter.
While Cook was efficient throwing the ball, completing 12-of-24 passes for 163 yards a touchdown and gave intermittent sparks running the ball, it may have been the decision to exclusively use Cook at quarterback that led to the Wildcats’ demise.
“All the guys came together, we talked about it”, said Arkansas safety Josh Liddell after the touchdown. “We went through some adversity and responded the right way”.
The Hogs responded again. Drew Morgan has 751 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, while Hunter Henry has 647 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns for Arkansas. Collins said that pass made him more determined to score. “He used to say, ‘There’s nobody more important than the players you have on campus.’ For me, any moment we can be out, I want my coaches recruiting but his philosophy was really focus on player development and stay close”. After the game, he declared for the National Football League draft. He was taken to a hospital for precaution. He headed to the locker room after an incompletion and returned after halftime wearing street clothes.
