Arkansas Selected To Host Second Straight NCAA Regional
Despite not making it a year ago, the Gamecocks earned an at-large bid to the tournament after the selection show Monday.
“What a fun week of baseball”, Louisville coach Dan McDonnell said.
The Tigers, who haven’t hosted since 2010, were not one of the 16 Regional hosts announced Sunday evening. The Seminoles now have a very solid shot at earning a Top Eight national seed for the tournament.
The regionals will be played June 1-4.
Then again, neither did Stetson, which leads the nation in team ERA (2.58).
“It’s business as usual”. An inning later, Florida State pulled even in the seventh with a pair of runs on two hits.
“They’re a very offensive ball club”. They’ve got a great ball club. “We know we’re never out of any game”. Other regionals in the state include Gainesville and DeLand. But in making UF the No. 1 overall seed, the NCAA committee took into account injuries to Singer (hamstring) and senior catcher JJ Schwarz (broken hand) during that stretch.
The Seminoles took the second game of the contest, 8-5. “A little bit under the radar and maybe a little bit of the underdog and a little bit of the chip on your shoulder. It was razor-thin throughout the process and we landed with Clemson being slightly outside the first eight going in”.
For the second-straight day, the Tigers got on the board first. “It’s definitely something we can win”.
“We’re used to the extra-inning feel, and I think that proved true here”, Mendoza said.
“That’s our big focus right now”. “And we’ve got a real home field advantage”.
The regionals are a double-elimination tournament.
Lee also said he wasn’t surprised at being matched against Florida St. McDonnell has six sophomores in his starting lineup, but said he was determined not to let the team buy into the mentality that it couldn’t do the things that more experienced teams had done in recent seasons.
“Yeah, it’s going to mean a little bit more, but we also got to remember we got IN first”, A&M sophomore Braden Shewmake told reporters IN College Station after the tournament field was announced Monday. “I can’t wait to put the Florida State uniform back on”. We won 45 games, finished 22-8 in the regular season in our league.
USC’s performance in the tourney clearly didn’t do anything to hurt its seed, and the Gamecocks’ chances of hosting a regional were slim, at best, no matter how well they played.
