Arkansas State scores 29 in 4th, beats South Alabama 49-31
Arkansas State is now 4-0 all-time against South Alabama, and has scored 45 and 49 points in the last two meetings. The Red Wolves added the two-point conversion on a pass to J.D. McKissic to make the score 31-28 in favor of the Jaguars. Three plays later, Stone recovered a fumble in the end zone and, four plays later, Clifton returned an interception 37 yards.
Arkansas State has built an impressive record under similar circumstances as Tuesday’s contest as the Red Wolves have won 12 of their last 15 conference road games dating back to the 2011 season and holds an 11-6 record in all midweek games since its inaugural season in the Sun Belt Conference.
A-State improves to 2-0 in the Sun Belt and 3-3 overall.
The Red Wolves finished the game with 345 total yards offensively to South Alabama’s 302, including outrushing the home team 226-29.
The South Alabama Jaguars were a bit of a mystery entering the season and are still more unknown then known but they were all defense in a 24-18 win at Troy as a touchdown underdog. Warren Wand lead the way with 85 rushing yards while Johnson White had two rushing touchdowns.
Clements threw for 273 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions for South Alabama (3-3, 1-1). A-State couldn’t muster any more points and the score at halftime was 21-14 in favor of South Alabama.
Moving forward to next week, the Sun Belt will have two midweek nationally televised games as Arkansas State will host UL Lafayette on Tuesday, October 20 and Appalachian State will host Georgia Southern on Thursday, October 22.
