Arlington cop who killed Christian Taylor gets fired
According to Johnson, Miller’s mistakes included his decision to enter the building without his partner, who had more police experience, which led to “an environment of cascading consequences”. Christian Taylor was killed days before the first anniversary of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, 18, by a white officer in Ferguson, Mo.
On Tuesday, Johnson said Miller made a series of bad decisions in communicating with fellow officers and initially approaching Taylor on his own without a plan for arrest. A grand jury will decided whether Miller should face charges.
During the Tuesday press conference Chief Johnson said, “Officers had reason to believe that Taylor was committing a felony burglary in progress”.
The victim’s father added that his son was wrong for entering the dealership, but it shouldn’t have resulted in him losing his life.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing but the news station notes that a criminal investigation could take weeks.
“It is clear from the facts obtained that Mr Taylor was non-compliant with police demands”, the police chief said.
It also expressed sympathy with Taylor’s family.
Texas criminal defense attorney Philip Hilder, who is not involved in the case, said that Miller wasn’t entitled to due process because he wasn’t a permanent employee.
Taylor, who was black, was a graduate of an Arlington highschool and a soccer participant at Angelo State College in West Texas.
A rare indictment came in 2009, against a white Houston police officer who fatally shot Robbie Tolan, the black son of a former major league baseball player, outside his home.
Johnson said that following the altercation, Miller fired his weapon four times and Taylor was shot. And arguably, when Miller shot Taylor he had made a rush to judgment without the facts, based exclusively on his feelings. Taylor ran and tried to break through a glass door to get out, Johnson said.
Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams said in a statement that the racial dynamics of police incidents around the country have driven a wedge between community groups.

Instead of helping to set up a perimeter around the showroom, Miller confronted Taylor and ordered him to get down on the ground, Johnson said. Officer Miller, who joined the police department in September, can not appeal the decision because he is still on probation. Police spokesman Tiara Richard said Miller had retained a lawyer.
Although he completed the police academy and was a fully licensed officer, he was still finishing a 16-week field-training program required of new officers.
