Armed robbery suspect tries using Uber as getaway auto, police say
After allegedly robbing a Royal Farms store on Harford Road in Parkville, a 23-year-old man was caught by police while attempting to catch an Uber ride away from the scene. Police said the suspect took a bottle of Tylenol cold medicine to the counter and then pointed his weapon at the clerk demanding money from the register.
Officers were able to get a description of the suspect and a K-9 unit tracked the path of his escape.
Cochran was seen getting into the rear of a silver Lexus. It turned out that the getaway driver wasn’t a few accomplice who was in on the heist the whole time.
Uber has made a fortune connecting stranded pedestrians with private-hire cars, but has come under fire from taxi drivers. When officers pulled the auto over, the driver said he worked for Uber. Plus, what if he’s busy?
Looks like robbers are trying a new getaway vehicle. Plus, you will get arrested.
The police quickly determined that the driver and other passenger had nothing to do with the crime, and were subsequently released.
Taken into custody within half an hour from receipt of the distress call, Cochran was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and theft of less than $1,000.
