Armed suspect shot and wounded by officer
The officer then followed the suspect in a marked police vehicle with its emergency lights on and attempted to perform a traffic stop.
Authorities charged 24-year-old Kareem Thomas with weapons offenses and reckless driving.
The NYPD is investigating a police-involved shooting this afternoon on Montgomery Street in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn.
NYPD Chief of Patrol Carlos Gomez said it all started when a police officer on Empire Boulevard saw a white Mustang go speeding by. But he didn’t comply, and led the officer on a chase before he hit a flatbed truck.
Investigators said the man had the loaded semiautomatic Ruger firearm in his hand as he ran for several blocks before stumbling and dropping the gun. The individual does not heed those warnings.

Thomas, was transferred to Kings County Hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition. He is expected to survive. The officer was not injured.
