Arnold, Montel back Kasich presidential bid as NH vote nears
Kasich instead focuses on his time as governor of OH and as a member of the U.S. House, telling voters to look at what candidates have done rather than what they say they’ll do.
“We’re going to do well here”, said Kasich. But another candidate will take the stage in St. Anselm College riding a new wave of momentum: Marco Rubio is rising off his better-than-expected performance in Monday’s Iowa caucus.
“You have not been involved in a consequential decision where you had to be held accountable”.
“What I will tell you is part of the campaign is not just about how you trash somebody else. I love your Buckeyes and I’ll be back soon”, he said before adding, “not too soon”.
While those lines drew applause, Rubio’s response criticizing Christie’s performance as governor attracted catcalls.
If reports about criticism Ohio Gov. John Kasich is directing at some of his challengers are accurate, he’s playing New Hampshire voters-and the reporters trailing him-for rubes who apparently don’t know enough about him to realize this is another case of the pot calling the kettle black.
“That has never happened before in American history”, Kasich remarked about the indie hit being played at a Republican town hall. Only the former is true.
“Everyone is beginning to talk about Kasich running a positive campaign, can it work?”
Mr. Kasich spoke in opposites again today with regard to Sen.
“In America, conservatism should mean not only that some rise with conservative principles, but everyone rises”, he said.
Kasich recognized the problem that often crowds debates.
“There are a couple ways to look at that”.
While Kasich believes he is in second place in New Hampshire, he is now battling for third place in recent polls, and lags far behind GOP front-runner Donald Trump. His humane answer on immigration, for instance, was a strong message for the voters he’s trying to appeal to, and a unique answer among the ones the other candidates offered.
It is no accident that the Boston Globe, the largest newspaper in New England, strongly endorsed Ohio’s governor.
“I’m not an establishment guy, I’m sort of in a lane of my own”, Kasich told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union”. “We needed this tonight”. “I’m thinking about how I’m going to get home sometime between SC and Nevada”.
“New Hampshire Republicans can do their party a critical service on February 9 by voting for an experienced political figure with a record of results, and thus dealing a blow to the divisive, demagogic candidates running on nativism and other political simplicities”. He’s in the mix for a top-three finish.
Where will the debate be held?
