Arrest made in Chicago shooting death of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee
Tyshawn Lee was just 9-years-old when he was lured by grown men into an alley and executed.
A judge denies bail to shooting suspect Corey Morgan on Friday. He connected it to Tyshawn’s father, who the superintendent said hasn’t helped police “at all” in the case, and at least two other fatal shootings over the previous months.
The afternoon of November 2, officials say, men approached young Tyshawn as he played basketball with friends at a Chicago playground.
Corey Morgan, 27, has been charged with first-degree murder, police said.
Commissioner McCarthy believes 9-year-old Lee’s death was related to his father’s gang affiliations. “This gang just signed its own death warrant”, said an irate Superintendent Gary McCarthy, who vows to annihilate the gang along with their rival gang too.

News of the arrest on Friday came the same day activists planned to stage a protest over the shooting death of a black teenager by a white Chicago patrolman in an incident caught on police dashboard camera. They said at least two others had also been involved. The boy’s father, Pierre Stokes, has denied being involved in a gang.
McCarthy said they believe that Edwards, the wanted suspect, was still in the area and urged the man to turn himself in. He was also grazed in the back, right forearm and right hand.
Asked about Stokes’ cooperation with authorities, McCarthy said he wasn’t being helpful, ” not at all”.
Morgan had been arrested earlier this month on a gun charge. Once Tyshawn reached the middle of the alley, he was shot multiple times.
McCarthy said a second person who took part in Tyshawn’s murder is in custody on a gun charge and an arrest warrant has been issued for a third man involved named Kevin Edwards. “This was very clearly not a case of “no-snitching” but there was a lot of fear”. The suspect walked Tyshawn back to the alley where the fourth grader was shot five times, according to the criminal complaint. Authorities said Morgan was a convicted felon with an extensive violent criminal history, but didn’t provide details. He has a prior conviction for aggravated unlawful use of weapon and was sentenced to two years of probation.
McCarthy called Tyshawn’s death “a crime that shook our city and quite frankly was an act of barbarism”. Morgan was able to post the required ten-percent of the bond, after his girlfriend put up $100,000 from a settlement she won in a lawsuit against a hospital.
