Arrests Made As Thousands Rally In US For And Against Trump
Thousands of people were rallying across the country on Monday in protest of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Tens of thousands are expected to rally in downtown Los Angeles after groups that in years past held separate May Day events joined together to oppose Trump.
One of the largest demonstrations took place in Washington, where activists, immigrants and even lawmakers filled the streets, including Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez, one of the most prominent faces in the fight for immigration reform.
Rallies are being held Monday in at least 200 USA cities in 41 states in the United States in solidarity with the worldwide communist community. “I think that is really wrong.” another protester, identified himself as Philips Palmer, said. But workers kept on walking off the job and protesting, demanding that their voices be heard.

Like his predecessors, President Trump issued a proclamation on Friday re-declaring Monday “Loyalty Day”, calling on patriots to “recognize and reaffirm our allegiance to the principles” that make the US great.
Other “Day Without Immigrant” marches occurred in Newark, New Jersey; Memphis; Albany, New York; Milwaukee and other cities throughout the nation. “We can’t trust him”. “I want a sense of justice and dignity for my people”. But they were concerned that some people, specifically those who are in the country unlawfully, might be afraid to come out.
More than 100 other activists there demanded an end to what they called a collaboration between county law enforcement and federal immigration agents. Above the crowd waved signs preaching solidarity.
Marches are planned Monday in cities spanning from Santa Rosa to San Diego.
In many ways, US President Donald Trump’s attempts to implement his hardline immigration policies have not gone very well in his first three months.
The U.S. protests focused on Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration as he presses police agencies around the country to assist federal efforts at rounding up individuals sought for deportation and threatens to withhold federal dollars from “sanctuary cities” that do not cooperate.

“Many people like my husband simply do not fit into this category”, said Scribner. This year’s May Day, he said, feels different from previous years. “We are going to continue to educate our community, we are going to continue to grow our deportation defense network to defend our community”, Martinez said.
“We know that the Trump administration is attacking our communities, and we are here to stay and here to be united”, Jose Palma, organizing director of the community group Neighbor to Neighbor, told the crowd.
Police were telling people to leave the area or risk arrest after canceling a permit obtained for the May Day event.
