Arrow Finally Revealed Prometheus’ Identity
Speaking of Prometheus, here is a spoiler-free preview of tonight’s episode of Arrow, titled “What We Leave Behind”, from TV Guide. We will have to see how well that holds when Arrow returns. First he takes Evelyn, then he takes Billy. (It could also explain why Prometheus’ costume recalls the Dark Archer outfit worn by Tommy’s father, Malcolm Merlyn [John Barrowman].) As to how Tommy could be back from the dead?
That’s where our big bad, Prometheus, comes in; he was the son of one of the Hood’s victims; and he just so happened to not be pleased about what the Arrow did and made a decision to take matters into his own hand.
The Plot Prometheus attacks Curtis after a Christmas party, sending him to the hospital. Felicity’s boyfriend is killed, and Prometheus tricks Oliver into pulling the trigger. And I’m betting the the optics of another masked villain being voiced by a black actor but revealed to be a white actor in the suit (see The Flash’s Reverse Flash and Tony Todd) weren’t that appealing to The CW. On the other, there’s no real weight to Prometheus’ identity as the son of some corrupt pharmaceutical CEO, nor any more specific lesson for Oliver to learn than the one we’ve reflected on all season. Diggle is lured out of hiding and captured.
The reaction of Oliver on the arrival of Laurel had just stunned us in the episode aired yesterday.
What did you make of the “reveal” and Laurel’s return? Which is fantastic if you’re Katie Cassidy’s accountant, but kind of awful for the purposes of storytelling on Arrow. The issue with bringing her back, though, is diminishing the stakes of the series.
Arrow was never my favorite of The CW superhero shows. Despite the presence of characters like Ragman, human antagonists such as Prometheus and Vigilante still hearken back to the original spirit of Arrow in the best way possible. It is a damn shame that we have to wait to January to find out what is going on, but the writers seem to have finally figured out some stakes that are making this season much more interesting. Remember that DJ Thea was dating past year? They’re placeholders to be chucked out by the end of the season. Oliver and Prometheus fight and eventually Oliver is able to shoot him with an arrow, killing him. Felicity Smoak wasn’t really a character and she’s indispensible. Could the Legends crew really not tell this was going to happen? Being one of the main characters, he should give plenty of space. The Prometheus story is being driven by at least two deaths that are unequivocally his fault.
After he took Damien Darhks’ life in the Season 4 finale, Queen revoked his no-kill policy for good, realizing that extreme measures were sometimes necessary in order to protect his city.
Did that last one catch you off guard? Not only has the questionable morality of this caused fights amongst the members of Team Arrow, but the ramifications of Oliver’s actions are the whole reason why Prometheus was created in the first place.
In giving up the tapes of his nightlife activities to Paul, Curtis admits that Mister Terrific has been Brother Pathetic with those hands. While Oliver seeks solace in the arms of sexy reporter Susan, Curtis returns home to find his husband Paul leaving him because he can not deal with potentially losing Curtis every night.
Oliver’s new girlfriend has ties to his Russian adventures – don’t think we didn’t notice that lingering shot on the bottle of vodka. We know she’s setting him up for something. I understood her choice to take on her sister’s mantle, but her journey was far too easy. Lost tales of The Hood? “I know sometimes I say this, but it’s probably the episode I’m most proud of this year”, he revealed.
