‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: Megalyn Echikunwoke to bring ‘Vixen’ character to life
We were already excited about the character of Mari McCabe, aka Vixen, joining the DCTV universe as part of an animated mini-series on CW Seed.
As news about Vixen began to trickle out, though, many fans were disappointed to learn that the “series” was actually a single 30-minute, animated featurette cut into five minute chunks that would only be streamed online.
Vixen or Mari McCabe, as she is domestically known inherited the ability to mimic and use the powers of any animal thanks to a totem passed down through her family.
Although only appearing on CW Seed thus far, Mari has been a member of the DC universe on The CW from the beginning thanks to the vocal appearances of Arrows Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards, as well as The Flashs Grant Gustin and Carlos Valdes. This instance of continuity should come as no surprise because the producers intentionally cast a voice actress for the animated shorts that could one day pull it off in live action. As it now turns out, that world is going to be entering the live-action realm for at least one upcoming episode of “Arrow” season 4. She even has links to the same real life city – Detroit – making her stand out from the fictional locales of The Flash (Central City) and Arrow (Star City). Guggenheim had mentioned in interviews earlier this year that magic was a calling card for Vixen, so the developments on Arrow make her a more natural fit now than ever before.
