Arsenal boss Wenger: Szczesny could join Roma
Arsenal have made contact with former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia as they search for a replacement for Wojciech Szczesny.
“He could go on loan to Roma”, Wenger said.
Following the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea, the future of Szczesny and David Ospina has been the subject of much speculation, and both stoppers could be playing elsewhere next season.
The Mirror claim the Columbia global had showdown talk with Wenger.
“I spoke to Szczesny and I’d be very happy if he came to Roma”. If one of the goalkeepers can play somewhere then it’s good.
“I’ve known him for a long time, as he’s an worldwide”.
But it’s understood Wenger told the 26-year-old that he still rates him highly.
“He has a few bad habits, like smoking a cigarette after a game, but these are not very serious problems”.
“He will do well at Roma and I’ll call him when he arrives to make sure he knows what not to do in the Capital”.
It seems unclear how concrete the Gunners’ interest is, but respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio ran the story on his official website, with Amelia quoted as saying he has signed a confidentiality agreement and can not comment on the rumours at the moment.
Ospina is thought to be satisfied with Wenger’s encouragement.
