Arsenal fans tear down Tottenham signs during Capital One Cup game
Arsenal are aware of the incident and say they will work with Tottenham and the authorities in an attempt to identify those individuals responsible, who could face banning orders. When you play Tottenham you want to win the game, but also for the fans because it’s a massively important game for them.
Nacer Chadli of Spurs shoots and gets a deflection off Calum Chambers, unseen, for an own goal equaliser on Wednesday night during their League Cup match at White Hart Lane. Partnering the experienced Per Mertesacker at the heart of the defence, Chambers read the game well and was comfortable in possession. The veteran midfielder, who was linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer, scored in each half to give the Gunners a much-needed win.
“We were resilient and in the times where we were under a lot of pressure I thought we were compact”, Chambers told the official Arsenal website.
10 supporters have been arrested by the Metropolitan Police after acts of criminal damage and vandalism were committed following Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over their rivals in the third round of the Capital One Cup. Arsenal’s all time leading goal scorer is of course no stranger to winning North London Derbies, and will know first hand what the atmosphere in the dressing room will be like. Wayne Rooney played up top and got on the scoresheet but yet again, it was 19-year-old Frenchman Anthony Martial walked away with all the plaudits, scoring his fourth goal in as many games for United. “We dominated the second half and had the better chances”, he said.
“Tottenham gave absolutely everything but on 70 minutes we could take advantage as they dropped a little bit in their intensity”.
Mauricio Pochettino defended his decision to play goalkeeper Michel Vorm and defender Federico Fazio, both of whom struggled at times in a game win for Arsenal by Mathieu Flamini’s two goals.
“It is a competition which is a good opportunity for him (Vorm) and we need to show more respect”, the Spurs boss said.
