Arsenal midfielder Elneny could make swift weekend debut
Arsène Wenger buried the frustration of conceding a 90th-minute equaliser at Liverpool to insist Arsenal’s display in an enthralling 3-3 draw at Anfield had strengthened his belief in his team’s Premier League title credentials.
Following his signing from Egyptian Premier League side El Mokawloon the midfielder played an integral part in helping Basel lift three consecutive Swiss first division titles.
Elneny was at FC Basel for three years and made nearly 100 appearances in the Swiss Super League.
Elneny will provide more cover for Arsenal in central midfield and the Egyptian global could prove to be an exciting signing for the Gunners.
The official Arsenal Twitter handle revealed the completed transfer with a brief tweet stating: “It’s official!”
It left the Gunners boss frustrated and even the conclusion of the drawn-out transfer of Basle midfielder Elneny, which has been held up by visa paperwork, could not lift his mood. “But after Olympiacos, in a game where we were knife on the throat, he turned up with something special”, Wenger said.
The 23-year-old, who has been signed for a reported £7-million, is expected to be officially unveiled today.
“Mr Wenger is a highly-respected manager and one of the world’s best managers; it is my honour to be trained under his management”.
“I told him to just calm down or I will send you to stands”, joked Wenger. The Reds opened the scoring when Roberto Firmino scored his first goal at home but Aaron Ramsey pulled Arsenal level.
A versatile midfielder who runs all day like it is second nature, Elneny will bring more energy to the midfield for Arsenal and is threatening in both defence an attack.
