Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere targets second leg against Barcelona
With Arsenal chasing Leicester in the title race he could still play a vital role in Arsenal’s campaign in the last few months of the season.
German playmaker Ozil will return on Tuesday, as will Aaron Ramsey, and Arsenal will need their big guns in form as their only victory against Barcelona came in 2011 when goals from Robin van Persie and Andrei Arshavin gave them a 2-1 victory in the first leg of their last-16 tie.
“It is nearly frightening to say the words: Messi”.
“There is clearly an air of invincibility about them”.
“But Arsenal can, in the manner in which they play, scare people to death”.
And although the Catalan giants, who were also treble winners last season, would hope that they can continue to dominate Arsenal in the latest fixture too, the English team would hope that they can enforce a reversal in their fortunes this time around, especially considering that some of its star players have returned from injury over the course of the last weeks.
“Any chance Alexis Sanchez or Olivier Giroud get on the break, they’re going to have to take”.
“Arsenal can not lose at home”, Wilson said.
Wilshere is yet to feature this season after undergoing surgery on a fractured fibula which he sustained in training just before the season kicked-off in early August. “We have to find a good balance between defending and attacking”.
“You have two sides who are best going forward, if they have any frailties it is in defence so it will be an extraordinary tactical game”.
“I watch a lot of Arsenal games because I have warm memories of the club, and because they are a very attractive team”, Vermaelen told The Telegraph. “Players always want to play as many games as possible and have that rhythm”.
“There’s no fear [on returning to the first team]”, he said. “It doesn’t need to be 3-2 or 4-3 going to the Nou Camp”.
Barcelona’s front three of Suarez, Messi and Neymar have scored 91 goals between them in all competitions this season – making them the most feared attack in world football.
This leaves space down both wings and leaves their centre backs occasionally exposed, and with the pace the current Arsenal side possess with Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Hector Bellerin, this could definitely by a way from them to hurt the Spanish champions.
