Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez Set For Injury Scan
Arsenal dropped more points and added more names to its injury list on Sunday as it was held to a 1-1 draw at Norwich and forward Alexis Sanchez limped off with a hamstring problem.
But even having produced what Mourinho felt was the best Chelsea performance of the season, a team with Eden Hazard as an unlikely target man still offered only intermittent threats in an unusually tepid London derby.
Wenger fears Sanchez is playing down a hamstring injury that he suffered in Arsenal’s draw at Norwich.
Defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin is expected to be out for three months after suffering ligament damage, while Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta are also out.
The Gunners were dealt a blow with what looked like a hip injury to Laurent Koscielny, with Brazilian Gabriel taking the Frenchman’s place.
“Obviously we can do it, but also it’s not going to be easy because it is a good team and it is going to be a great atmosphere over there, but I think we have the team spirit to do it”.
Next on the agenda for Arsenal is a visit from Sunderland on Saturday.
“There are plenty of players across Europe who play in every single game”.
“It was hard to rest him today because you want to win, but I go back to the Zagreb game”.
“After the game Wenger said he had a slight issue with Olivier Giroud and Hector Bellerin but Sanchez is the most important player of the three and should have been brought off when the game was dead”.
“The players are there to play football and not to be rested and not for the press to decide if they need to be rested”, he said, as reported by TalkSPORT. “Because that happened he put himself behind others in the pecking order and that is why he hasn’t been involved – but I thought this game suited his attributes”. A remarkable change in fortunes when you consider the former Rotherham forward’s future at Norwich was in doubt not too long ago and has only been handed four league starts this season.
But, while he was often a spectator, we feel Cech deserves credit not only for the saves he made, but the way in which he commanded his penalty area and never allowed Norwich to apply sustained pressure.
“Overall it was a hard game but at least we didn’t lose it. That’s the positive of the day”. It’s not enough, but we have an opportunity to come back.
