Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez undergoes Manchester United medical
Alexis Sanchez is close to completing his move from Arsenal to Manchester United, Press Association Sport understands.
The 52-year-old Irwin, now working a United ambassador, was speaking in Mumbai as part of Gulf Oil’s fan-building campaign for the club’s supporters, who were invited to a live screening of the Premier League away fixture against Burnley on Saturday.
Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper said Sanchez had been pictured arriving at United’s Carrington training complex to complete his move from the London club, widely expected to be finalised on Monday.
“I have spent three-and-a-half wonderful years at Arsenal and I bring with me very positive memories of that great club and its fans”, said Sanchez, who joined the Gunners for £31.7 million in 2014 after three years at Barcelona.
The former France global said he did not believe Sanchez had been unhappy at Arsenal and added: “I’ve been with the first team every day and I see how Alexis is”.
“We have to use the high quality players we have and I think that makes sense because we have quality players”.
Manchester United has officially announced the mega-money signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, with the Chilean joining on a deal worth £600,000 a week.
Yet his current opposite number at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho, may find himself facing even more pressure now that he has secured Sanchez’s signature.
“In these situations, we depend on the mentality of the players, on whether they can make a step forward”.
A move to either of the Manchester clubs became a preferable option to signing a new contract.
“I think that’s a big thing – it can’t be underestimated, playing well”, he said.
“He’s a very professional player who has been committed until the last minute”, Wenger said.
“The players and manager decide what is best for them”.
Thierry Henry was transitioned into Emmanuel Adebayor before Robin van Persie took over as the main man. Sanchez, Giroud and Ozil came in next while Alexandre Lacazette is the future of the Arsenal forward line. Players won’t go to City because they think they’re a bigger, more historic club than United.
“City have some unbelievable players, but winning the league this year doesn’t mean anything”.
While Mourinho wants more competition in attack, his defence continues to perform well with second-placed United, 12 points adrift of runaway league leaders Manchester City, yet to concede a goal in 2018.
