Arsenal set to be without Oxlade-Chamberlain for 2 months
Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be out for “six to eight weeks” with a knee injury.
The England global was substituted during last week’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona following a heavy clash with Javier Mascherano.
In the next eight weeks that means he will be out. “We feared surgery at some stage before we saw the MRI. He should be alright [for Euro 2016]”.
“It’s possible, yes”, he added. Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck could theoretically fit in on the left wing, but that’s not an ideal solution.
Following their defeat to Manchester United, Arsenal will take on Swansea City on Wednesday before facing London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, and Wenger hopes his side will be at their best to recover from Sunday’s loss at Old Trafford.
“We gave a lot against Barcelona and that certainly had an impact on our belief against Manchester United”.
“If we want to buy at the end of the season, money will be available”, he said. “We have one or two with muscular tightness but other than that everyone should be okay”.
League leaders Leicester return to action against Norwich on Sunday, while Arsenal and Spurs play the following day, knowing that if the Foxes slip up, a win could put them top of the table.
