Arsenal target commits to Dortmund until 2020
Borussia Dortmund have been handed a huge boost ahead of the coming season with the news that striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has signed a new contract until 2020, as per the club’s official website.
The Gabon global, who joined from St Etienne, netted 16 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season.
Although a five-year contract doesn’t necessarily mean he will remain in Germany until beyond his 30th birthday-Luis Suarez signed a similar deal with Liverpool before moving to Barcelona the following season-B/R UK’s Clark Whitney is optimistic Aubameyang will be with BVB for the long-haul.
Furthermore, with Louis Van Gaal dropping a hint that he had a mystery striker lined up, Aubameyang’s name was widely linked with being the man set for Old Trafford.
Aubameyang told the club’s officlal website: “I’m absolutely delighted that the next years of my career will be spent at Borussia Dortmund”.
“I feel extremely comfortable at this club, playing with my team-mates and residing in this city”.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc expressed his delight at news of Aubameyang’s new contract, which was announced on Friday. “Dortmund has become like a second home to me”. I am committed to the club with all my heart and never considered departing.
He said: “Auba has developed outstandingly”. “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to tie him to another long-term contract”.
Dortmund will need to get off to a quick start in the new campaign as they look to banish the demons of last year’s early-season flirt with the relegation zone.
