Arsenal transfer news: William Carvalho admits love for Gunners and Thierry Henry
Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho has expressed his desire to play for Arsenal after admitting he’s been a fan of the club since the days of Thierry Henry. Arsenal is the only club in Europe’s top five league not to buy an outfield player this summer and many things Wenger will need to refresh his squad in January.
Premier League giants Manchester United reportedly were linked with a move for the Portugal midfielder, but it seems the Red Devils’s interest in him have died down. Asked about his preferred destination were he to leave Sporting, Carvalho told: “I prefer not to say, but there is a club with which I’ve always empathised – Arsenal”. Arsenal only signed goalkeeper Petr Cech over the summer, but have often had the midfielder watched.
Arsene Wenger is said to have launched bids of more than £20m in the past but the Arsenal fans by the jukebox are hoping that these comments are what finally pushes a deal for Carvalho over the line.
It appeared the Gunners would face some serious competition as the Metro then claimed that Chelsea had joined the race for Carvalho’s signature with Jose Mourinho supposedly identifying the Sporting star as the man to rejuvenate his flagging team.
Carvalho admitted that he has always thought about the Gunners and is very fond of club legend Thierry Henry.
“Perhaps this is also why I’ve found the Premier League so appealing”, William added.
