Arsenal turn to £40m Atletico Madrid defender to solve crisis
The post Arsenal Interested In Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez But Club Refuses To Meet £40 Millon Valuation appeared first on 360Nobs.com.
Summer signing Rob Holding started at centre-back alongside Calum Chambers for the disappointing defeat to Liverpool.
It’s unlikely the north Londoners will spend heavily on two defenders, however, given that Laurent Koscielny is approaching match fitness and Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista continue their recovery from injuries.
Daily Mail Online reported that the Gunners “have opened negotiations with Atletico Madrid” over the 21-year-old Uruguay global as the team’s head coach “steps up his pursuit of defensive reinforcements”.
Gimenez, 21, joined Atleti from Danubio back in 2013, despite having only made 16 appearances for the Uruguayan side – and he’s become a key player for Atleti ever since.
Gimenez has emerged as one of the most highly-rated defenders in Spanish football since breaking in to Diego Simone’s first team last season and has already racked up over 20 caps for the Uruguayan global team so he’d be a sensational signing if we could pull it off.
And finally, Sky Sports are reporting that Arsene Wenger wants promising youngster Serge Gnabry to go out on loan and sign a new contract at Arsenal.
If Arsenal refuse to negotiate with the Madrid giants as expected, Shkodran Mustafi is left as the alternative target.
Aside from the fact that Atleti are unconcerned about him leaving, his sizeable €65m release clause certainly makes it hard to see an agreement being reached.
