Arsenal would take Europa League seriously – Arsene Wenger
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that they would take the UEFA Europa League serious if they crash out of the Champions League.
Bayern Munich’s 4-0 win over Olympiakos means the Gunners must win by two goals or a one-goal victory margin of 4-3 or higher when they travel to Greece on December 9.
He said: “At least tonight we have come out with a chance”.
Manchester United legend and BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand has revealed he believes that Arsenal stars Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez are on fire.
“We have three points on the board now in the Premier League and switch focus to the Champions League again”, said Blues captain John Terry after securing a 1-0 win over Norwich in the English Premier League on Saturday.
This was a fine Arsenal performance, and these three points could still prove vital after Bayern Munich comfortably beat Olympiacos at Allianz Arena.
Sanchez set up Ozil’s opener with a stunning cross from the left, which saw his German teammate time his sliding header perfectly to give the Gunners a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.
“I still felt we had a chance after that”, added Wenger. I tried to compromise a little bit [with the substitutions] by taking off Giroud and not taking a risk with Bellerin.
“I don’t think there is a problem with doping in football”. “We were unlucky and it was a bad day because we scored an own goal, missed a penalty and overall didn’t deserve to lose this game”.
“The speed of our passing and movement gave Zagreb a problem”. It was an important test to be alive in the Champions League and we responded very well.
Wenger said before the game: “I’ve put players who know their positions in those positions and I didn’t want to be too adventurous with Aaron Ramsey after 31 days out”.
And Wenger has called on his team to erase the memory of their inconsistent European campaign with a heroic display in Piraeus. This time we need to qualify.
Zoran Mamic’s side have also failed to win any of their last 11 away games in the Champions League, failing to find the net in eight of those.
“We will be without Coquelin for the next two months certainly”. There is a big difference in money and quality of players between ourselves and teams like Arsenal.
