Arsenal wrong to pursue Vardy, says Merson
Leicester midfielder Andy King says the strong team bond at the club will not be damaged should Jamie Vardy decide to join Arsenal, as the future of the England striker threatens to overshadow the team’s build-up to Euro 2016.
Jamie Vardy is expected to postpone any decision over whether his future lies at Leicester City or Arsenal until after the European Championship, effectively complying with Roy Hodgson’s desire for club issues not to distract his players during the tournament.
Vardy, who could play up front or on the wing for Arsenal, offers the same sort of pace as Walcott but the Leicester man scored 24 league goals this past season compared to Walcott’s five.
West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan confirmed five bids are in for new players as the club aims for signings with “good value” in a “potty” market.
Walcott, 27, has been interesting West Ham but has three years to run on his contract and is prepared to try to fight for a place on the right.
Laurent Koscielny is the latest Arsenal player to praise Jamie Vardy after Olivier Giroud had confirmed the striker’s interest in joining the Gunners.
“I think Vardy is really thinking whether Arsenal would suit him”, he said.
“The whole Leicester ethos over the last couple of seasons has been built around people like Vardy”.
“He’d be a player who would strengthen Arsenal and give them more variation to their play which they lack down that central area”.
“Twenty of his goals must have been over the top, balls that he is running on to, beat the goalie and great finish”. He is flawless for them. They play his way, they get the ball forward very quickly and he will keep on causing havoc.
That informal deadline came and went and with England now sharpening their preparations ahead of their opening match against Russian Federation on June 11, Vardy is showing total focus on the task at hand. But it has now been made clear to the squad that all attention must now turn to Saturday’s Group B opener against Russian Federation in Marseilles.
