Arsene Wenger has revealed his team news ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.
Petr Cech will start in goal for Arsenal as David Ospina remains sidelined by a shoulder injury.
Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers are all expected to come into the back-line, whilst Mathieu Flamini will start in midfield after his heroics against Tottenham in the last round- though his partner in the middle is up for debate. Mikel Arteta will not be fit. Ramsey, Wilshere, Welbeck and Rosicky of course are all out too.
The Arsenal boss explained to his club’s site: “Ospina is still out too, so Cech will certainly play”.
We have had a request from someone researching football chants.
He kept a clean sheet at St James’ Park as Wednesday chalked up an unlikely win in the last round, having made 10 changes to their starting XI.
Head coach Carlos Carvalhal said: “We can not take risks with anyone”.
“They have played a lot of big teams and are scoring three goals per game so I think it is normal that they are completely favourites to go through to the next phase”. The academy graduate and budding England U20 worldwide is set to make only his sixth appearance of the season when the Gunners visit Hillsborough on 27 October, with first-choice goalkeeper Keiren Westwood to be left out entirely due to a niggling injury concern.
Wednesday will be without several senior players as they aim to stretch their unbeaten run to nine matches, including defender Michael Turner.
When you combine that with the fact that we don’t really know who is going to be playing tomorrow but that most of Arsenal’s super young kids have seen training this week, I really have no idea where to start with this preview.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference this afternoon, Carvalhal said: “Fernando is an important player for us”.
