Arsene Wenger unhappy with officials following Arsenal drubbing
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman described his side’s display in the 4-0 thrashing of Arsenal as “perfect” as the south-coast club ended its winless Premier League run in style.
In the post game press conference, Wenger found fault with someone outside himself or his players for three of his opponents four goals.
“The second half was far better than the first, some good goals and maybe more chances to score more”.
Meanwhile, Arsenal had beaten Manchester City 2-1 on Monday, and could have gone top with a win, with many expecting a Gunners victory.
The Arsenal match is Bournemouth’s last game of 2015 and their last before the transfer window opens but Howe will not be looking to make big changes in January. “We can’t dwell on that too much”.
“We had a game where nothing was really happening for us and everything was happening for them”, the goalkeeper told Arsenal’s official website.
The margin could have been more as the Saints had a goal disqualified after Long clashed with Arsenal keeper Petr Cech to head in a ball. If you are a bit under level and on top of that you have the first three goals against you with decision-making, it is even more hard.
“I said before the game that being one point behind or in front is not too important, it’s the quality of our performance that counts and we were not good enough to win the game”, Wenger said.
Theo Walcott had two relatively good chances in the first half to draw level but both were squandered, allowing Southampton to go in at the break leading.
Long did get the ball in the Arsenal net on 34 minutes, but it was rightly chalked off for a nudge in the back of Mertesacker. “We have to cope with that and look for the solution. But I still think success is linked with talent and cohesion”.
The best of the goals, by miles, was the opening goal by little known right back Cuco Martina.
Koeman has confirmed defender Cedric Soares (groin) and striker Graziano Pelle (knee) will again be absent, but he will be heartened by Shane Long taking full advantage of a first-team recall in the absence of the latter by netting twice against Arsenal.
“You look at this current Arsenal squad and it is arguably stronger than the Chelsea squad that won last season’s title”, Wyett said.
Now, after the inevitable fan inquest into the performance, Arsenal supporters have identified exactly who was to blame for their humiliating defeat.
