Arun Jaitley on Congress’s mindset of Queen above Law
At the public meeting held in the minority-dominated AIUDF bastion, Rahul Gandhi also spoke about the achievements of the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in Assam in the last 15 years.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was forthright, saying the Congress leadership was guilty of Goebbelsian propaganda, in claiming to be victims of “political vendetta” in the Herald case. “The Income Tax authorities will follow their own procedure”, Jaitley wrote in a Facebook post titled “Why the Congress is wrong”.
Congress is liable to answer as to how property taken from government and bringing it to a company and then becoming owners was justifiable, he said, adding they are free to knock the door of higher courts if they feel injustice has been meted out to them.

Before the session began, it appeared that the government had managed to convince opposition parties, including the Congress, not to disrupt Parliament.
“The government has not passed any order, government is not a party in the case”. “By disrupting democracy the financial web created by the Congress leaders can not be undone”, he said.
“This battle has to be fought legally and no one is above the law”, wrote Jaitley. “Prima facie, it can be said that there a breach of the provisions of the Income Tax Act in as much as an exempted income is used for a non-exempt goal”, he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, without a direct reference to the Congress’ stalling of parliamentary proceedings, said at an event that the twin dangers to democracy in India were mantantra or rule by the whims of a few and dhantantra or rule by money power. They have transferred the income of a political party to another company. “Why then disturb the Parliament and prevent the legislative activity from continuing?”, he said. Therefore, the wisest thing for the Congress would have been to ignore him and use its bank of legal eagles to burn the midnight oil and face the charges.
The finance minister accused the Congress of deliberately trying to delay the passage of GST and other important bills in Parliament by raising issues like Herald case.
