Arvind Kejriwal meets Suresh Prabhu, says no rehabilitation without demolition
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday to discuss the demolition drive undertaken by railway officials which allegedly led to the death of 1 child and rendered more than 3000 people homeless in the scathing winter.
“Whenever a slum is about to be demolished, call Rahul Gandhi”. Prabhu also said the residents had ignored several notices from the railway authorities.
“It was decided that railways will give us the schedule in the next three/four years wherever railways wanted land for its development.
Bawana is one option as dwellers have been rehabilitated there before as well”.
Amid AAP’s offensive towards the Centre and Rahul Gandhi, Kejriwal held a 30-minuted assembly with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu the place methods to take away encroachment of land belonging to the railways was mentioned threadbare.
As per the post mortem report, the six-month-old girl died due to shock and injuries on chest and head due to impact of blunt force and mentioned about fractures in ribs and head.
Prabhu told the Lok Sabha the child died before the railways started pulling down the hutment they said were built illegally on railway land to make way for new rail lines.
Since the demolition, the hutment dwellers have been living in the open, at the site, under canvas tents.
Armed with the new ammunition of Demolition drive by Railways the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party is targeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Parliament.
A bench of justices S Muralidhar and Vibhu Bakhru further said this is a “pathetic act” as “peoples’ lives are involved and we can not be so casual”. As you already know we aren’t in the federal government, it’s AAP’s and BJP’s authorities.
AAP additionally protested in Parliament over the difficulty after Speaker Sumitra Mahajan rejected an adjournment movement moved by it.
He had accused the Delhi government and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Centre for the razing of the slum and asserted that the law had been clearly broken during the demolition. They go to another part of the slum to assemble other things.
He said, Instead they should provide help to the people who have been displaced rehabilitate them.
Kejriwal promptly hit back, saying Gandhi was a “kid” who did not know that the railways which carried out the razing was controlled by the central, not Delhi, government.
After the assembly with Prabhu, Kejriwal stated there might be no additional slum demolition with out rehabilitation of the affected individuals. “First the hospital refused to admit her and then later they admitted her”, said another resident, Lakhan.
