As the shootings unfolded, a horror for one mother via text
Mina Justice was trying to contact her 30-year-old son Eddie Justice, who texted her when the gunshots erupted at the Pulse Club in Orlando and asked her to call police.
Eddie messaged his mother saying “Mommy I love you”, adding “In the club, they shooting”. “In the club they shooting”, Mina said he texted. Im going to die.
A petrified son messaged his mum to tell him he loved her and detailed how the tragedy unfolded until the messages finally stopped coming. Now, I’m tell I’m bathroom. She said he wrote her, ” ‘he has us, and he’s in here with us'”.
Ms Justice did not know if her son was safe when spoke with reporters. The 911 dispatcher requested that she stay on the line in order to get more information, and when Justice asked her son if anyone had been hurt, he responded, “Lots”.
He then text: “He’s coming”.
“Still here in the bathroom”, he responded.
It wasn’t clear if 32-year-old Christopher made it out: “And we haven’t been able to call him or text him”, she said. “Which bathroom u in'”.
“Is the man in the bathroom wit u?”
Another woman, Christine Leinonen, was sobbing outside the Orlando Regional Medical Center while desperately waiting to hear from her son, Christopher.
“His name has not come up yet and that’s scary”, she told the Associated Press. “I got a bad feeling”.
Police have now identified the gunman as United States citizen Omar Matten, 29, who killed 50 and injured 53 people in what is being described as a domestic terrorism incident.
The shooting took place early on Sunday when more than 3o0 people were reportedly inside the club.
